Review of Body and Soul (1947) by Private U — 12 Jul 2008
Boxing movies (especially in the 40s) seem to follow a set program. Guy living in poverty rises up to fame, getting mixed up with thugs, falls in love with the good woman, but plays around with the bad one, then comes to a crossroads when it comes to (of course) throwing a fight.
That being said, this is still one of the greats. Very real characters, and Garfield (as he was in FORCE OF EVIL) is on top of his game.
A true knockout, although, I also highly recommend THE SET-UP.
