Review of Bobby Fischer Against the World (2011) by Roy S — 27 Mar 2011
One of the highlights of the 2011 Cleveland International Film Festival, "Bobby Fischer Against the World" is a fascinating and heartbreaking look at the troubled chess prodigy whose brilliant strategical mind was eventually destroyed by paranoia and mental illness.
Director Liz Garbus does a careful job of presenting a sympathetic portrait of Fischer, without condoning the erratic and inflammatory behavior of his later years. Well worth seeking out, even if one has no vested interest in chess.
