Review of Bobby Fischer Against the World (2011) by Okolo C — 01 Jul 2011
This is an excellent documentary by an award winning director. You don't have to be a chess player to appreciate it. The film is more about the man Bobby Fischer who is regarded by many to be the greatest chess player of all time.
It is a biography of a mad genius who after reaching his lifelong goal, declined into paranoia. It also does a great job of showing just how important the game of chess is in world history. The prestige of two world superpowers (America and Russia) hung in the balance when Bobby Fischer fought for the world championship in 1972.
For those like me who love the game, it is like watching a documentary about Muhammad Ali.
