Review of Bob le Flambeur (1956) by Gavin L — 20 Mar 2007
This was the film that the French New Wave said that they themselves wanted to make. It is easy to see why, with its location bound sequences, and Bob the anti-hero gambler who just about doesn't give a damn.
This is one of the films that started to get the French cinema back on its feet after a pretty torrid decade after the second world war. It is perhaps the starting point for modern French Cinema. C'est superb!
