Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Pegah P — 08 Apr 2013
Wow. I watched "Mulholland Drive" first. hated it. Then I tried watching "Eraserhead." Hated it.
I figured I would never like David Lynch, I didn't know whether his films were just too intellectual for me to understand but they're all about taste and having layers of understanding, not intelligence.
"Blue Velvet" is that such movie that was freaking weird and disturbing, but still an accessible film. Top-lined by Kyle MacLachlan and Dennis Hopper, this film was riveting from beginning to end. Of course, the film didn't get great until Dennis Hopper stepped in, but I really liked the film overall.
It is probably David Lynch's least celebral and mindfuck movies, and maybe that's why I liked it. it was more accessible and digestable. Not saying I don't like abstract films, but his tend to be pretty hard to watch.
Soo glad I finally saw this and can share the appreciation of a great written and acted film!
