Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Peter B — 30 Jul 2010
Prelude to review---.
Ive never heard the song blue velvet played so much in all me life.
Actual review----.
Sooo my first david lynch film. And I dont think I like david lynch. See, I understand some folks might enjoy a film that needs interpretating--finding symbolism and noticing the influences from noir films and discussing that bugs represent evil in a dark underbelly of society and all that stuff. But me - I wanna be entertained. First and foremost. And altho I can see why some folks like this, its got a vision sure and directed well, it just didnt click with me. I'm more of a spielberg guy and bloomin well proud of it. Blue velvet is more of a film to be studied by film studies students than actually wholeheartedly enjoyed and thats where my problem lies. Enjoyment should be everything. Life is too short to study stuff, I wanna enjoy a film so much that I simply neeed to see it again as soon as possible. Not sit contemplating and analysing and ultimately losing my interest so I become bored stiff waitin for it all to hurry up and end. Whoa, see what ive done? Yeah? So basically in my attempt to say I dont like this flick coz of metaphors and shiit, I have kind of used a metaphor to describe my reasons for disliking it. Just like using a bird symbolises love and a bug symbolises eeevil in this here film. Deep man. Real deep. Ready? Let me explain....See-films = life. Enjoy films = enjoy life. Studying films = boring = studyling life = boring. Whatever, lifes also too short to waffle on and on about sumthin I didnt like. So....At the end of the day I just thought it was a load of soiled pants and it shud jog on.
