Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Matt M — 12 Jan 2013
One of Lynch's most important and widely acknowledged films. Blue Velvet is the tale of a young man who finds a human ear in a field and, by befriending the daughter of the investigator assigned to the case and using her information, decides to explore the situation himself.
However, the path he follows leads him to nightmarish and dark mysteries involving a nightclub singer and her relationship with a psychopath. Lynch plays with a subject that is dear to him, deception, and looks for the dark and repulsive sides of the most glamorous of elements he displays.
Dennis Hopper is perfectly cast as the twisted villain.
