Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Dave L — 02 Jun 2013
In the history of highly over-rated movies, one would exert a tremendous amount of effort to come up with one that has hype like "Blue Velvet". The story bills itself as a mystery but certainly isn't all that mysterious.
Director David Lynch seems to be making commentary about what lies under the surface of suburbia America (which has been done a thousand times before and better). Sure, the openly sequence is interesting and even compelling but the rest of the film lurches into the realm of sadistic behavior that the screenplay finds funny.
The rest of us find it horrific.
