Review of Blue Valentine (2010) by Agata G — 09 Apr 2013
A very good drama which had me emotionally invested due to Derek Cianfrance's terrific storytelling and the amazing performances by the two leads of the film. Derek Cianfrance tells a great story about a relationship that is falling apart and he does it in a way that most directors cant do today because he got me to care about these characters.
This is a very depressing movie and that isn't necessarily a bad thing because it's saying that this movie actually made me care about what was going on with these characters, at one moment I would be happy and the next I would actually feel a bit depressed.
Cianfrance's directing is just terrific because he just makes every shot look so interesting and some of that is also due to the cinematography which looked incredible. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are just incredible in this movie and are one of the main reasons why most of the scenes were as powerful as they were.
My main issues I had with the film is that at certain points the film started to slow down a bit for me and some of the side plots just felt unnecessary to me. Overall Blue Valentine is a very powerful drama that should be seen just for it's terrific performances and it's great storytelling.
If you plan on picking this movie out for a "date night" with your loved one don't because this is not a movie you would want to watch if your in a happy relationship.
