Review of Blue Valentine (2010) by David T — 11 Jul 2012
A honest portrait of love.
Blue Valentine is a thing of remarkable beauty .
For every happy note you get three sad ones back.
When you look back over the years, out of all the cast on Dawson's Creek can you honestly say you picked Michelle Williams out to becoming one of the finest young actresses of her generation? But she has managed to achieve this over the years with some brilliant performances.
Both Williams and the always excellent Gosling give five star performances of Oscar worthy proportion.
Blue Valentine suckers you in from the start, and despite rooting for the couple throughout you almost already know the conclusion. Like many a young love, the pitfalls of romance are never far away.
Great credit needs to go too Derek Cianfrance for his awesome direction.
A modern day lovers masterpiece.
