Review of Blue Valentine (2010) by Anthony M — 23 Dec 2012
An accurate, intelligent and brilliantly-acted piece of adult drama that displays an often-uncomfortable look at the breakdown of a relationship between its two characters. The non-linear way of telling the story takes a while to get used to but thanks to its careful and sometimes suspense-filled direction, not to mention the Oscar-caliber performances of Ryan Gosling and, especially, Michelle Williams, this is a two hour viewing that is handled in the right ways and detailed so meticulously that it only serves as an example as to how films following relationship breakdowns should be done.
