Brutal, uncompromising and not afraid to be massively uncomfortable. Inter-cutting the wistful and vulnerable beginnings of a relationship with that of what inevitably comes later - and this juxtaposition creates a deep sting of melancholy in even the happiest scenes.
It's a good movie, but NOT an easy one to watch.
