Review of Blue Thunder (1983) by George C — 12 Jun 2007
Being a pilot myself and a long time chopper fan, this movie really appealed to me. And I wasn't disappointed! The film features the most awesome looking helicopter ever (yes, even better than Airwolf!) which sports equipment and abilities which are easily feasible today. This gives the movie a believable feel which saves it from the silly sci-fi feel that Airwolf fell foul too.
The plot is rather obvious by todays standards but still moves along at a good pace and keeps you interested. Roy Scheider gives a fantastic performance as the lead character, the pilot charged with testing the chopper over LA and who discovers the true nefarious plans for it. Warren Oates wipes the floor with all of them as he plays Scheider's witty superior.
All in all an awesome movie. If you're a pilot, its your cinematic wet-dream!.
