Review of Blue Ruin (2014) by Juli N — 28 Apr 2014
This is different, an independent American movie with no well known actors. The premise is intriguing, but utlimately this is not much better than a made for TV movie, without the ad breaks. There is hardly a sympathetic character in the whole film, and the most generous of those we do meet is the one with least interest in the outcome of it all.
The direction manages to maintain tension quite well. The script gives no one very much dialogue, so the plot avoids too much complexity that would require lengthy explication. If you liked The Place Beyond The Pines, this may appeal, but probably safe to give this one a miss.
