Review of Blue Ruin (2014) by Daniel F — 08 Sep 2014
A short, gritty and at times gruelling revenge thriller that doesn't sugar coat things to try and keep it's audience happy! Blue Ruin is one of the best American thrillers since the hey day Coen brothers films such as Blood Simple and Fargo.
It has a purposely slow burning style and as we delve deeper into the main character Dwight's tale of vengeance, it kept me truly gripped until the final bloody showdown. Macon Blair excellently portrays a man who is out to right the wrongs exacted upon him and actually makes you care about the character.
It not gonna be to everyone's taste as there are people out there who's idea of a decent revenge tale is overblown/underwritten trash such as Taken, but if you are a Cormac McCarthy or Coen Bro's fan then look no further!
