Review of Blue Ruin (2014) by Esteban G — 07 Jan 2015
Blue Ruin had a great cast of unknowns that hopefully bring them to more mainstream movies in the future. Macon Blair was absolutely incredible as Dwight. His character and personality is really interesting and a bit depressing at times.
Throughout this movie I didn't really agree with a lot of things he did but I felt for the guy! He's in pretty much every scene and he's owning it. I like how they all feel the pain that they deserve too.
What I mean is that everybody that gets hurt they show that they've been and don't act like a superhuman. The story is a bit confusing at the first 30 minutes but as the film progressed I was able to piece together the events and I really enjoyed the revenge story.
The film did get a bit more enjoyable once we met his high school buddy and his gun collection. The ending I would've liked to be a bit more heartwarming in a way but it really was kind of a bittersweet one.
Blue Ruin had great acting, a depressing but interesting story, and enough action and gore to keep someone interested. I would've liked a bit more from the ending but it is what it is, and it's pretty good.
