Review of Blue Ruin (2014) by Mark T — 30 Jun 2014
This is the thriller/revenge story that Hollywood should make but more often relies on overblown plots and excessive effects. This is a bare bones movie...that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It sucks you in slowly, much like a Hitchcock film does and is thoroughly rewarding.
Dwight's parents were killed 20 years ago. He withdrew into himself and became a recluse. His killer gets released and now Dwight knows what he has to do. Easy enough, right? But Dwight's just a guy. He doesn't really know what he's doing, he doesn't really have a plan, he just has an objective...kill his parents killer. He's not a psycho in the normal sense, he just needs to right a wrong...and that's really it. You can see it all in Dwight's eye's.
This is really well made, out on dvd now and well worth a watch. Highly recommended.
