Review of Blue Ruin (2014) by Rater W W — 23 Jan 2015
Going into this film, I did not know much about it, and quite honestly, a little research on the premise of this film may be helpful. A man with an average skill set of violence, returns to his hometown, where he is not only faced with killing the people necessary, but possibly members of his own family.
By the end of this short picture, I wish I had gotten to know a few of the characters a bit more, because some of their moments in the final act did not really matter to me. Dwight, played superbly by Macon Blair really is the highlight of this film, and the slow transformation into the darkest part of his life, is so well-acted that you may squirm at how creepy and eerie some of the moments are throughout this film.
Well-written, greatly acted, and wonderfully directed, "Blue Ruin" is a great film that I wish had a little more development as far as it's characters go. Overall, it is a great film that I recommend to any fans of film.
