Review of Blue Ruin (2014) by Tj B — 07 Jul 2015
BLUE RUIN is a film that has a very minimalistic approach to the revenge story. It's stripped bare. No backstory, no sub plots, no love interest, no jokes, just a man and his mission. That approach does separate this from your mainstream revenge thriller, but it also makes the characters feel hollow and dull, and I really found it hard to care for any of them.
Yes, the film has a good sense of pacing with its pillow shots, and the lack of dialogue and quiet atmosphere build tension, but I still doubt I'll be returning to it down the road.
