Review of Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland (2016) by David P — 16 Feb 2016
Blue Mountain State is one of my favorite tv shows ever so you could say I was a little excited for this movie which continues where the series left off. Like many other tv shows turned into movies, BMS fails to capitalize on what made each 30 minute episode so great.
They dragged one concept out over 90 minutes and it lost a lot of what made it special in the first place. My biggest gripe was that they over exaggerated characters and made Thad, the fun loving party guy, a jerk to almost everyone.
If you liked Thad in the tv show, and come on who didn't, you may find him a bit different in this film. It was fun seeing most of the returning characters although some of them had very minor parts which was disappointing.
There were still some classic laugh out loud moments but more often then not, they tried to hard and funny scenes fell flat. I wanted to enjoy this movie so much and at times I did, but it was not the follow up that I expected.
Still, if you are a fan of the tv series, you need to watch this just don't expect the epic BMS send off you were hoping for.
