Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Imho S — 28 Jun 2014
This is not a feel-good movie. It is not a dark but meaningful movie, a funny movie, or one that gives you food for thought and insight into the human condition. This is a movie in which Woody Allen depicts his psychological insight into people who are superficial, vain, and exploitative.
Cate Blanchett acting is the gem in the shallow mud, and her ability to run the gamut between socialite intent upon appearances to disturbed lady talking to herself on a park bench is worth watching. But the movie was not.
I really wish I had known that this is a Woody Allen movie, with all of meaningless, cocktail party chatter and neurotic, post-psychoanalysis insight which go along with it. Definitely not my cup of tea, but maybe it is yours.
