Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Al M — 11 Apr 2014
I must think about why I deeply didn't enjoy this film. For me, it was like many French films, a mix of good and awful. At times, the cinematography is awful, too close and jostling. Then it turns to beauty and captivates us.
Is this their goal, I think so...but it doesn't work, it is painful to watch at times, especially for a 3 hour run time. The story is deep, touching and too long with a flat ending. In some ways, this is the best porn I've ever seen, but I didn't really want that.
The story telling is solid, the acting is great and her transformation is clear and believable. So why don't I like it? Because I don't relate to the characters, I don't understand why they feel the way they do.
Why does she choose women? Why does she cheat? I never have had these feelings and the film doesn't help me find out what these feelings are. I feel it fails me, or I fail it...
