Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Kathy U — 13 Jan 2014
I really don't care if this story is between two ladies. It's a very honest story of love and loss between two people. The film's theme is universal, so fact that the lovers are both female is irrelevant for the film.
Their being lesbian is hardly an issue. It feels real than most other love stories I've seen, very tender , passionate tale of young love that I found fascinating. The film so effectively takes you inside the shoes of Adele and Emma, and I think it's basically because of the very expressive faces of Adele and Emma that were more emphasized with every close up shots, but between the two, Adele steals the show.
The love scenes were pretty explicit, but it's just a little part of the movie. Three hours weren't enough, and I felt a little lump on my throat at the ending scene. Beautiful.
