Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Josh O — 29 Jan 2014
I never thought a 3 hour lesbian drama would be this engrossing. This is a really good film but unfortunately it's glamourised sex scenes take a lot away from it and show that in the end this is just a mans fantasy of a lesbian relationship.
The actors are fantastic and are able to carry this film and hold your attention no matter what is going on; the level of emotions they're able to achieve is masterful. The cinematography is beautiful, the script good and the score is nice.
The direction (which I hear was torturous) brings such a naturalistic approach (apart from said glamourised scenes) that it doesn't feel like your watching a movie but are instead watch a portion of someone's life.
This is a raw piece of work and though I don't think it's as great as other people have been saying it still is a really good film but is definitely not for everyone.
