Powerful performances bolster this passionate coming-of-age drama with earnest writing and intense themes, which will, in time, overshadow the soon to be shortly lived controversy brought upon by its graphic depiction of female sexuality, but that doesn't excuse the bare fact that its three hour running time remains unjustified given the actual substance of the film.
