Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Myles J — 13 May 2014
A gripping and realistic approach to dealing with youth sexuality. This film though graphic is filmed beautifully. The two leads feel genuine and appear romantically drawn to one another that actually give of the impression that this is just an ordinary lesbian couple.
Other critics were harsh on the graphic scenes between the characters but they actually add to the realism of the piece. After getting over the first full-on scene you actually forget them and enjoy the emotional and lively story unfolding.
The plot is well developed and is pieces together well with real skill by the lead actresses. This film won't be everyone's favourite film but it has sparked genuine interest in the French film industry from my point of view.
I am now hooked!
