Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Atlante G — 23 Oct 2014
The film is beautifully shot. The director of photography is quite amazing and Adele is an outstanding actress. But there are some issues with this film. The whole story evolves around these two girls that fall for each other. The problem is that I don't see any chemestry between them. Not only that but I have this weird feeling that the director has a weird obsession over Adele. But not in the the Hichcock kinda way, more like the Michel Bay and Megan Fox way.
Also, I understand the director wants to show a sexual relation and passion between both charecters, but there are ways of showing that without making a almost 7 minute softcore pornographic sequence. I mean, I respect that the director shows a lesbian sex scene after seeing hundreds of heterosexual sex scenes in movies history but come on that just looked like a porno. And it felt like a gratuitous sex scene. Maybe what this movie needed was a female (maybe lesbian) perspective.
Maybe the problem is that if you are going to make a film about women power and lesbian rights then maybe it should't be directed by a man.
