Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Chloe S — 05 Jan 2014
A daring, epic and unflinching journey into the relationship of two lovers in modern day France as they encounter their own self-discovery as well as hardships brought on by the struggles of any human relationship.
It manages look at the human side of things, and for the first two-thirds of its epic three hour running time, the audience becomes involved with these two characters. Its unapologetic in its graphic nature, refusing to water down the physical aspects of the relationship it portrays, and it manages to keep things mature and artistic, rather than use raunchiness to lure an audience.
My only complaint is the often explored dilemma it takes its plot into for the last third of the film. Despite this, its a splendidly acted French drama matched by excellent directing.
