Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by John L — 03 May 2014
Fascinating, if lengthy movie. Interesting reviews with most seemingly either loving or hating it, but after reading a handful, it seems that those hating it are either not very honest or, like a restaurant review I read once, complained that the door was hard to open.
I did not completely love it, and on top of that, I will admit that I was probably most interested in the move to see the amazingly beautiful Adèle Exarchopoulos - there, I'e said it. But the movie was a fascinating tale of love (lesbian love, but I personally could care less what kind of love). Adèle Exarchopoulos was every bit as beautiful as I expected and her acting was wonderful.
For me, the major negatives were the believability of some parts of the story line. For example, Adele is attacked by one of her high school class mates after they find out she went to a gay bar and apparently met someone, but the attack occurs in the presence of her openly gay friend and his boyfriend.
The story though, clearly is the story of young love and as another reviewer put it so perfectly, "love can be exhilarating and devastating" and in my view, it so often is both.
