Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Sean D — 05 Jul 2015
Blue is the Warmest Colour is a remarkable film. Emotionally satisfying and draining it is a complex and full blooded look at love and relationships. Adele Exarchopoulos is sublime as a young woman discovering herself, love and her sexuality.
When she meets the older Emma we go on a journey to the fullest. We see true love, true lust and amazing scenes of warmth and joy. It is sexually explicit but it so much more than that. It is a deep look into young love and the aftermath of that.
A lot is shot in close up which only adds to the experience. Their world becomes our world and its effect is to affect deeply.
