This is my first Antonioni film. I know. I'm what they call "a tool." BUT WHAT A MOVIE TO START ON, HUH?!? Good God, this movie was freakin' fantastic.

I don't know what it is about mid-to-late sixties thrillers that are so compelling. Perhaps because it's so much about the attitude and the art of making the movie that really stands out as opposed to the basic storylines that are presented in today's cinema. Really, every shot in this movie is crafted to be art, and despite a darker storyline, you are more compelled to feel for this character as he questions everything he sees.

There is some crazy ass metaphor in this movie and I have to say it is really well executed. Obviously, not everyone should agree on its interpretation, but no matter what you say, it seems to be pretty darn effective. There were some scenes that didn't make the most amount of sense, but that's really okay because I'm the first to admit that I'm not the smartest person in the world. Now, I'm not saying this movie is great because I didn't get it. That would be foolish, but I honestly think I need to study some aspects of it again before giving my opinon on certain parts (for example...the rock concert sequence.).

I really want to drive the point home about the color in this movie though. The movie is about photography, so Antonioni makes sure that his own cinematography is top notch. There really are few boring shots in this movie. While some parts are traditional, the footage that isn't traditional complements the film nicely. I really can't say enough good things about this movie. If you haven't seen it, please do. I honestly don't think you'll regret it.
