Review of Blow-Up (1966) by John A — 26 Jun 2009
Again Antonioni captures the detachment and boredom that seems to characterize modern society. Through the character of the photographer, he shows us a man removed from life, distant in his interactions with others, captivated and engaged only in those brief moments when the light is just right or a spark flies in a modeling session.
The murder plot works well as a foil to illustrate his apathy about life, and while he might seem shaken for a moment, apathy eventually envelops him once more.
