Review of Blow-Up (1966) by Jovan J — 12 Feb 2011
I wonder if this movie was shot by a photographer because so many of the shots and angles were incredible and it seemed as if any frame could be an interesting still photo. A very nice LOOKING film. Besides that, this movie was just okay to me, it may be because I am from a younger generation, but this movie just seemed to slowly trot forth with its plot, which I like in theory, but I'm not sure if they capitalized on it in a way that's very interesting.
Not too much character development, the main character starts off as a huge asshole, and it seems he remains that way. It is a very interesting look into the world of mod photography in London, that aspect seemed to take center stage here above all else.
However, I really liked the ending scene with the mimes. I'm taking that as a metaphor for his experience in the movie, they are able to "create" and believe that things are there when they really are not, and maybe he was doing the same thing all along.
