Review of Blow Out (1981) by Anthony V — 18 Sep 2007
This movie is a must see for many reasons. The first thing that I need to say is that it is a movie for the intellegent viewer. By this I mean that there isn't any foreshadowing that give you the the close up of what is about to happen(ala Pacific Heights when you get the close up of the pipes sticking up out of the floor and you know that someone is going to be impailed) There is a strange sound that you don't see what the cause is until much later in the movie.
Second Brian De Palma directs the movie in a way that pulls you into the story very quickly without any CGI or weird camera angles. There is one scene that shows John Travolta trying to figure out a key component and he is turning around in a very small room and the camera takes you with him without any angle changes. This is a very difficult thing to do and proof of this is that I have never seen another director try it.
John Lithgow plays a very ominous character and John Travolta is fantastic.
This movie is a must see because it is made for people that like to be treated like they are intellegent for a change.
