Review of Blow Out (1981) by Patryk C — 23 Jul 2012
With a close remembrance to Hitchcock's suspense movies, this paranoid thriller is filled with pop culture references. With a story based on Antonioni's Blow Up, it uses sound as the main device that leads to a surprising and shocking discovery about a murderous event.
Even though it may not be an original work in itself, it is still one of the most compelling of DePalma's movies. Great John Travolta as a peeping (listening?) Tom, reminding of the typical Hitchcockian man-on-the-loose.
With its macabre tone and unusual style this is definitely an eye-popping art house achievement.
