Review of Blow Out (1981) by Stephen E — 24 Jun 2013
Brian De Palma used to be such a fantastic director. What happened? What went wrong? He used to be such a master of his craft. "Blow Out" is his finest work in the director's chair. It's made with such style and unbridled energy that watching it gave me an adrenaline rush, and tension has rarely been handled better.
It's gripping and engaging partially because of Travolta's likable performance, but mainly because of De Palma's masterful execution. "Blow Out" is a well-made thriller that is genuinely thrilling.
Films like it just aren't made anymore.
