Review of Blow (2001) by Denise Z — 21 Apr 2014
It's not terrible, it isn't good either. It has a pretty heavy cult following of people who will fight to the death defending it, but I suppose I can't really complain seeing as how I am the same way with The Boondock Saints, which I know isn't a great movie, but I love it anyway.
I feel like this movie was only half of what it could have been and is mediocre at best, and it feels like a lot of the problems with this movie stem from the directing. Regardless, the cast does a great job, particularly Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp.
But no matter how good certain elements of this film are, I couldn't help but feel that there were just many other elements lacking that would have made it great. You just can't help but feel like this movie came out at a time when many others of the same genre and content came out, and all of those other movies did it better.
As I said, not terrible, but not as great as some people would lead you to believe.
