Review of Bloody Sunday (2002) by Peter B — 04 Mar 2011
I aint gonna do one of those reviews where you see the reviewer go into political detail and give an in depth critique on how honest the film depicts true events & talk about the event itself. I dont know how true it depicts the events, I dont know coz I was minus 9 years old when it happened and I also , ya know, well - I wasnt there.
So am not gonna put false pretentious words on here sayin how terrible it was and what people should have done and what should have happened instead. Ofcourse people being killed and injured is attrocius - that goes without saying.
But this, what am typing here, is a review of a drama, not of the day itself, and therefore needs to be reviewed as such. And so - its good. Greengrass directs in a docu style gritty way which makes you feel like you're there with everybody.
Its a tale that needs to be told for historys sake. Buuut it is longer than it needs to be and because of the style of the film theres a real detached feeling. Which is admirable but often you just feel like youre watchin the news.
And therefore as a piece of drama its simply good rather than outstanding.
