Review of Bloodsport (1988) by Andy N — 08 Jun 2010
It had been a while since I'd watched Bloodsport and after renting a few, not so good action flicks, I thought I'd pick up something that I knew was awesome and would be sure to satiate my action appetite.
Bloodsport is just as big of an 80s cheese fest as I remember it, but the fight scenes, which I thought wouldn't be as good as I remember them-me being spoiled on Jet Li action sequences and Tony Jaa's fast paced beat up anything that moves type style.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that Bloodsport still holds its own. The fight scenes are very well choreographed and the fighters are all pretty unique. Unlike his later film, The Quest, which is basically Bloodsport without the R rating, there aren't a whole lot of varying differences in the techniques that people use.
There's a fighter peppered in here and there that demonstrates a different style for a few seconds, but then they quickly get knocked out. The only one that really makes it far is the guy from Spain (at least I think he's from Spain).
If you're looking for 80s cheese and you're looking for some good action, you can't go wrong with Bloodsport.
