Review of Bloodsport (1988) by Jose M — 10 Jul 2012
1. Blood Sport has its characters, one of the Jean Claude Van Damme, beating each other savage until one of the competitors die. It is not a smart film by any means, but serves well as entertainment. I saw this film in Telemundo because I was in no mood to do anything else.
The story follows a man who runs away from service to meet up with his master. There he goes to Hong Kong, I think, to compete in the games of barbarism. He meets an American lunkhead and a beautiful female reporter while pursued by two US agents.
They all end up in the arena⦠if you can even call it that. We then see why the film is called Blood Sport as guys go into the matt hit each other viciously which of course has a lot of heads being kicked right in.
Anyways, out of all the fighters and their style we meet the antagonist who would be sure to be hated, not because of his unethical manner of fighting, but because he is one ugly mother****ah! Bolo Yeung is his name and man is he ugly! The only funnier than his face is pretty much everyone making stupid facial expression for laughs.
The only good scene as in term of facial expression involves a scene where a referee has this look of âhe is dead. Oh my God, you killed him. You sick **** you killed himâ? towards Bolo. Do not worry because he gets his comeuppance under the hands and feet by Jean Claude Van Damme.
Other highlights in the film include a small role Forest Whitaker and not much afterwards. Blood Sport is a film for entertainment value only. There is not a lot of writing or acting and bad-lame stunts, but it is enjoyable.
One thing I asked myself do the characters that get kicked in head get a headache afterwards because I found myself with one and I did not even get kicked!
