Review of Bloodsport (1988) by Tony P — 14 Sep 2013
An enjoyable 90 minute romp from the 1980s that is already looking old. The film has elements of Rocky IV.
Jean Claude Van Damme stars as Frank Dux, a US serviceman competing in the Kumite an underground martial arts contest where serious injury, plenty of blood and even death are the order of the day.
As a side story Dux is wanted by the US armed services in much the same way that the A-Team were chased by hapless agents!
Frank progresses to the final against an evil so and so called Chong Li. Here the film progresses into Rocky IV pomp.
Actually a part true story of Dux. Van Damme musters his usual gormless facial expressions and slow motion kicks as he progresses in the tournament.
The low budget Cannon 80s film is starting to show its age with poor print quality and Stock, Aitken, Waterman style soundtrack.
