Review of Bloodlust! (1961) by Bryan G — 06 Nov 2005
This is the first entry in a new category called Exploits from the $1 Bin. These aren?t necessarily films that need to be reviewed. Or films that really are able to be reviewed. Basically all I want to get of my attempts at reviewing these are to weed out which of these B-Grade flicks are worth seeing, and worth skipping.
Bloodlust can be best described as a poor man?s The Most Dangerous Game. While this is a cheap rip off of that much more classic film, Bloodlust is just dumb enough for me to actually like it. While I won?t go out of my way to ever see it again, for the price I paid, I got all I needed.
Four friends, lead by Robert Reed? yes, the father on The Brady Bunch television series? are cruising around on a boat, when the captain gets drunk and falls asleep. The group takes a small boat to a nearby island.
But the teens soon discover that the island is a dangerous place. There is an eccentric millionaire on the island, and is luring people to his mansion on the island. Why, you ask? Well to hunt them. Not really sure why though. I think he does explain why, but if I can?t remember than it mustn?t have been that impressive.
The movie is badly paced, and the suspense is almost non existent. But this is one of those movies that is so poorly done, it kind of works in some odd way. Most of I was laughing at how bad it got, but at least I was into in some way.
I wouldn?t really recommend this movie at all. I paid $.50 for this movie when it went on clearance at Target, and kind of feel glad I didn?t pay more than $1 for it. There is another movie on the disc that I probably will watch some other time. That will be another entry in the Exploits from the $1 Bin..
