Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Lynda M — 25 Mar 2009
A big fan of the Coens but had never got round to this one before. I was surprised at how compact it was for a first film but I was equally left wondering whether I was observing that sort of thing simply becuase I knew it was a Coen brothers movie.
Had I chanced upon this late on a Sunday on Channel 5, would I have noticed the leanness of the narrative? Was also glad to feel that No Country is palpably more mature and more lingering- just wanted to check they had not been treading water and I hear the Coens are relieved to find out that I don't think they have been! More of this, less of the Ladykillers please!
