Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Christopher L — 22 May 2009
I know that this is going to sound weird, but Frances McDormand is really sexy in this movie. Man, just writing that now that "Burn After Reading" is anywhere in my head makes me a little sick to my stomach, but it's true. The first Coen Brothers flick, the trailer for this movie has a quote from Hitchcock in it:
"It is very difficult, very painful, and it takes a very long time to kill someone.".
That's about half of the movie, but in good Coen form it is terrifying, bizarre, full of human frailty and confusion. They make it real, and I think this movie gets number two in the list of Coen brothers' movies that are brilliant, but painful to watch.
"Fargo" gets number one, of course.
