Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Rory D — 22 Aug 2010
So begins a career long obsession with perfecting the neo-noir, and this is their rawest expression of that genre. What a place to start. This is an accomplished and assured debut that doesn't show any of the normal seams of a filmmaker's first work.
They'll do more with the formula later in their careers, but it's always good to show mastery of the genre before you start playing around with it.
