Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Sandy K — 24 May 2011
The first movie made by the Coen brothers, it has their signature mixture of quirky humor and gore in a murderous plot going awry. I recently saw a Chinese remake of this one (âA Woman, a Gun, and a Noodle Shopâ?), so decided to finally see the original, and found it fascinating to see essentially the same plot in two completely distinct settings (1980s rural Texas versus 19th-century China).
I liked the Chinese version best, but in fairness perhaps that's because I saw it first.
