Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Mike D — 22 Jan 2012
The Coens' first film and it shows. There is a lot of really great stuff in here, but it's handicapped a little by the fact that Joel and Ethan were still finding their voice and style.
There are moments when the darkly comical dialogue breaks through, when the direction finds small glimpses of the Coens' ultimate voice. Which means it's worth watching, but be willing to groan a little bit along the way.
