Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Ken S — 15 Apr 2014
The Coen Brothers first feature is a solid effort with some noir-influences (though it turns a lot of that on it's head. The cast is quite good, particularly M. Emmett Walsh, and the script has a lot of that quality the Coens always bring, even if that Coen spark hasn't fully developed yet.
Waht is developed is the sense that in a Coen film, you can't expect anything to unfold in the plot the way you think it may. This is a well-made film, and an impressive debut, but the Coen Brothers only got better from here.
