Review of Blood for Dracula (1974) by Todd S — 05 Apr 2006
I remember seeing this one when I was younger on one of the late night cable movie channels and laughing. It was also released as ?Andy Warhol?s Dracula.? The mix of characters and how the actors play them really is what makes this so funny: The pale Count who seems to be bored or tired of life as an immortal; His assistant who knows the count is his meal ticket and is the catalyst for the Count to go to Italy to find a virgin (apparently Transylvania has run out of them!); the ?Italian? gardener who spouts Marx?s Communist Manifesto with a Brooklyn accent; it all makes for some very funny (some unintentionally funny) scenes..
The plot is pretty unlikely, I don?t see Transylvania running out of virgins, but as a tongue-in-cheek story it works. The soundtrack is unimpressive and doesn?t really add much to the viewing. The acting is average for the most part but, as I said, it has its comedic moments-some unintentionally. The effects are pretty standard for a 70s movie and are not cutting edge at all. If you are a fan of vampire films, this one will amuse you. If you like nudity, this one will also entertain you. If you are the casual horror movie fan, this may not interest you, but genre fans should give it a look and have a laugh..
