Blood Father is a 2016 action movie directed by Jean-Francois Richet and stars Mel Gibson, Erin Moriary and Diego Luna. The film tells the story of a father (Gibson) who tries to protect his long estranged daughter (Erin Moriarty) who is on the run from drug dealers who want her dead.

Now of course let's start with the obvious, and that's Mel Gibson. He had some rough past years and lost many of his fans because of the wrong things he said. Even though he did and said some horrible things, he still remains one of my favorite actors from childhood. The Mad Max movies, Lethal Weapon will always be some of my favorites. Sometimes we should separate the art from the real person.

Now having said that, is this movie any good? Well it's not bad for what it is, and that's an action crime movie about two people on the run. Gibson plays a man with a troubled past who must protect his daughter who got into trouble with the wrong people. It's basically his version of Taken. The story is pretty simple and straightforward, there's really not much to it. But it's a fun movie. The characters are interesting enough and the action is really decent.

All the actors in the movie do a really fine job for this kind of movie. Mel Gibson is funny but also broken, and there are some moments when he unleashes the crazy. Erin Moriarty is broken and vulnerable as the daughter who made some bad mistakes along the road, and her chemistry with Gibson works very well. Diego Luna is the main villain, and the leader of the gang who wants her dead. He's good enough but his role is not really big, but for the scenes he's in, he does a fine enough job. William H. Macy also has a nice little role as the main character's best friend.

Blood Father is a nice piece for Mel Gibson, if you're a fan of his you surely must check this out. It's not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it's really good for what it is and I'm gonna give this movie a 7 out of 10.
